About Us

Building Lives International is an organization that was created to support ethical and fair wages for artisans around the world through fair trade. To accomplish this, twenty percent of all proceeds that come through Spearman Artisanry go toward helping artisans and their families through scholarships for their children to attend school, building projects to build and repair their homes, training, and partnering with other likeminded organizations.

Dwayne and Jannett Spearman are the founders of Building Lives International and also the owners of Spearman Artisanry which is located in Lynchburg, VA. Their desire is to use the resources the Lord has given them to minister to others.

Dwayne was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina and raised in Greenville. He was licensed to the ministry in 1991 and ordained in 2001. He has a professional teaching license from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in Bible with an endorsement in History, holds a Th.B. in Bible, an M.A.T.S. in Theological Studies, a Ph.D. in Advanced Biblical Prophetics, and served with the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman with Lima Company, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines. He has over thirty years of ministry experience nationally and internationally, and currently serves a Regional Recruiter for the Network of International Christian Schools, pastors a home church, maintains a blog and podcast ministry,  serves other ministries in the areas of guest speaking, conferences, and revivals as the Lord provides opportunity. He and Jannett also served as missionaries in Guatemala and Mexico, and Peru.

Jannett was born in Esteli, Nicaragua. She and Dwayne met in high school in New Orleans, LA. She holds a computer electronics engineering degree, and both a bachelor and masters in Education. In 2013, after our return from serving as teachers in Lima, Peru, she decided to open a fair trade boutique in downtown Lynchburg. The Lord has blessed the venture and we now have two locations in Lynchburg.

They have two sons, Dane and Brandon who attended Liberty University. Dane now lives in Reno, Navada where he works as a studio graphic designer, and Brandon lives with his wife, Madi, in Mooresville, North Carolina where he serves as a police officer and is a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
